SAPIENT: A KEY PROTOCOL FOR C-UAS SYSTEM INTEROPERABILITY
Developed by the UK Ministry of Defence, the SAPIENT protocol (Sensing for Asset Projection with Integrated Electronic Networked Technology) has emerged as a major interfacing standard within complex C-UAS architectures.
SAPIENT main principles are:
- Modularity of various types of sensors using the same communication interface
- Reduced operator workload during surveillance operations
- Enhanced autonomy in decision-making (automatic identification of threatening activities to reduce false alarms, enabling autonomous, context-based decision-making)
- Increased autonomy in sensor management
- Reduced bandwidth requirements for network traffic
CS GROUP: A European pioneer and reference in SAPIENT integration
CS GROUP is currently the leading SAPIENT integrator in Europe, with extensive field experience and proven adaptability to complex multi-sensor architectures.
Our leadership is based on concrete achievements:
- NATO Interoperability:
o Successful demonstrations during the NATO Technical Interoperability Exercises (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), where BOREADES stood out in terms of performance.
o During the NATO Raly 24 and JPOW exercises, BOREADES demonstrated its ability to orchestrate a heterogeneous SAPIENT sensor ecosystem and establish secure interconnections via Link 16 with various command systems: an air defense C2, an ACCS, or even an interministerial center—at local, continental, or intercontinental levels.
- European Projects:
o Successful integration of the SAPIENT protocol in the European EDIDP JEY-CUAS project.
Thanks to this proven expertise and complete mastery of the SAPIENT protocol and Link 16, CS GROUP has established itself as a key player in the interoperability of C-UAS systems in Europe.
