SAPIENT: A KEY PROTOCOL FOR C-UAS SYSTEM INTEROPERABILITY
Developed by the UK Ministry of Defence, the SAPIENT protocol (Sensing for Asset Projection with Integrated Electronic Networked Technology) has emerged as a major interfacing standard within complex C-UAS architectures.
SAPIENT main principles are:
- Modularity of various types of sensors using the same communication interface
- Reduced operator workload during surveillance operations
- Enhanced autonomy in decision-making (automatic identification of threatening activities to reduce false alarms, enabling autonomous, context-based decision-making)
- Increased autonomy in sensor management
- Reduced bandwidth requirements for network traffic
